A follow up?

Do you mean more weekly quotes? I am planning to be able to start these again in the next week or so. We have been going through some changes here at the Network and this has slowed our posting to a standstill. Sorry about that and thank you for your patience.

If you would like further thought about the quote itself; this is a quote from Creative Journey number 59 which is part 1 of a 2 part blog on freedom verses chaos. Part 2 is Creative Journey number 60.

If you have any further questions please ask away. Always happy to answer what I can. Thank you for asking for more. Have an excellent day.

Andrea-Elena,

I'm so pleased to hear that this set of posts answers what you were asking. Great minds do think alike. Everyone is wired to approach life differently and that is a beautiful thing. I am now extremely interested in hearing what you think of the final posting in this series. Part 3 will be posted in a day or so.

Thank you for taking the effort to leave this comment, that made my day.

The only other thing that comes to mind right away, from your post, concerns the fellow who used to chastise you. Sometimes those who think they have all the answers before starting a plan, will overlook or not know how to deal with the new or added information that reveals itself along the way. Which has its own negative impact on the attainment of goals. Be that as it may, Thank you again for this wonderful and thought filled comment. (wish I had a thumbs up smace to put here.) :)

This is the part that I often have trouble with (and where my flesh nature's natural perfectionism rears its ugly head): the figuring out of (1) what the steps are, (2) in what order they go, and (3) how to prioritize the steps [other than natural order of what is a prerequisite to accomplishing something else]. Your statement here is key: "There may even be some information that you did not know you needed until you are progressing on your plan." An important person in my life used to chastise me for 'not thinking about what you were doing before you did it.' My response would be, "Well, until I did it and experienced this particular failure, I didn't know that that item was a factor to be considered at all, let alone before embarking on that task." I think that's where this person's natural bent toward internal reflection before acting contrasts against my natural bent toward acting and talking and then reflecting on what has been learned. Neither way is really wrong, but this person's ability to teach and guide me was really hindered by his inability to understand that my brain works differently from his (and that that is okay too).

So... reading things like what you've posted here helps shore up my new internal tape-loops:
~ "It's okay to try and discover that something doesn't work. Try something else after that. But if you don't try at all, you won't learn."
~ "You aren't perfect, dearie; you don't know everything, so don't expect yourself to know all the pieces and how to put them together. Part of the journey is finding the pieces and discovering that you need them and why you need them.

This is the part that I often have trouble with (and where my flesh nature’s natural perfectionism rears its ugly head): the figuring out of (1) what the steps are, (2) in what order they go, and (3) how to prioritize the steps [other than natural order of what is a prerequisite to accomplishing something else]. Your statement here is key: “There may even be some information that you did not know you needed until you are progressing on your plan.” An important person in my life used to chastise me for ‘not thinking about what you were doing before you did it.’ My response would be, “Well, until I did it and experienced this particular failure, I didn’t know that that item was a factor to be considered at all, let alone before embarking on that task.” I think that’s where this person’s natural bent toward internal reflection before acting contrasts against my natural bent toward acting and talking and then reflecting on what has been learned. Neither way is really wrong, but this person’s ability to teach and guide me was really hindered by his inability to understand that my brain works differently from his (and that that is okay too).

So… reading things like what you’ve posted here helps shore up my new internal tape-loops:
~ “It’s okay to try and discover that something doesn’t work. Try something else after that. But if you don’t try at all, you won’t learn.”
~ “You aren’t perfect, dearie; you don’t know everything, so don’t expect yourself to know all the pieces and how to put them together. Part of the journey is finding the pieces and discovering that you need them and why you need them. Then you understand how they fit together.” {Which, incidentally, is totally the way my favorite type of computer game works. Gee, wonder why the story/puzzle/hidden-picture games appeal to me so much? *grin* It’s the discovery! It’s learning what items are important and why.
I do think they can. For example, parents forgive their children of many wrongs. All the time.

The principles of good living are the principles of good living. They work if used. The Bible says God causes the rain to fall on the righteous and the unrighteous.

And I have seen those who claim to be Spirit filled to be among the most unforgiving.

I think that to reduce the laws God has put in place for all humanity to being only applicable to those who believe is to make actions, our doings, more important than they are.

It is sort of like a blind person. They can know what a tree is, benefit from the shade it gives on a hot summer's day, but he can never know the the deep greens of the leaves, the beauty of the tree in motion in a morning breeze. He can know the sun sets, feel the warmth on his face, feel the change in the air a setting sun produces (as opposed to the noonday heat for instance) yet he cannot marvel at the beauty of the wonderous colors with which the sun paints the clouds with at this time of day. He cannot see the extra richness that the sun gives to everything it touches, trees, fields, houses, the human face...

He will benefit from and sense and appreciate what he cannot see, yet, because he cannot see, he cannot fully appreciate what is there.

So too, anyone who applies the principles of good living, the laws of living well, will live well. But with out the partnering with the one who implemented those laws, full appreciation of them will never be reached. I think that is the difference. They can truly forgive another and yet not fully comprehend being completely forgiven themselves. A sad thing.

How insidiously that holding-of-the-little-thing can morph into weaving an entire sense of being from the threads one hammers that original little thing into. And then that sense-of-being cloak (a false one, of course) becomes armor and becomes heavier and heavier. What we think protects us from being hurt again (even if only perceived hurts), from risking to care and to love again, becomes our jail or our coffin. It's unforgiveness. It's pride ("I deserve more than what I think I received! I am better than this"). We ask, Why me, God? Well, I've seen it put another way (which was as much stepping-on-my-toes convicting as your post today has been): Why not you? Why do we think we are immune from the hurts that are part of the human story? Why do we think we must be this, that, or the other thing (choose your favorite label).

By what measure are we measuring ourselves? And who do we think the judges are? (Those THEYs we keep thinking of. Hmm... didn't you blog about that before?)

Why cannot we just trust that we are enough and let others who do not see this, off the hook? Why such high expectations for others? (I'm asking myself this. See, I was [and still am, too much, too often] past mistress in the art of self-pity. Queen of it, really. Am I growing out of it? Getting rid of it?)

Not sure I really have an answer for all of that yet. Just asking the questions with ya.

Thank you for sharing how this impacted you. That has made my day. Knowing that someone has been helped by what has been writing. That is what makes the writing rich.

I am going to look up that book by Oswald Chambers. I love his work anyway and now I can't wait to read this book. Thanks for passing it on.

Chewy books are the best!

Have a great day my friend.

* big sigh of relief and a few tears of joy and of "Eureka!" *

The cookie analogy is so apt, by the way.

If I could adequately put into words just how this dovetails with the book I read last night, If You Will Ask: Reflections on the Power of Prayer by Oswald Chambers, you'd be blown away. I think you'll just have to read the book for yourself. (It's not long, but oh, it's chewy!!)

Here's to no more big hairy deals! To lots of "Good deal!!" moments of calm God-confident energy. :D

The timing of this is almost eerie. Wow, Perfectionists Sorta-anonymous, huh? ;) I was just mulling over something related to this today. Looking forward to part 2.

By the way, I'm enjoying watching your journey. You're like a tree growing its roots deep into rich soil next to a mighty river (maybe not the Mississippi today! ha!) that sometimes flows more quietly and at other times rushes to the ocean. So... are ya a deciduous or a coniferous one? :D

June,

having re-read the post once again, I did see a choice of wording that may have seemed like I was directing things at the friend spoken of. I have changed the wording to better reflect what I was trying to say.

The new paragraph that starts, " What," you ask,"is the importance...."

I hope this addressed some of your concerns.

And please note, any further personal insults will not be allowed. You have called me arrogant and condescending. How did you pharse it... oh yes, "your particular brand of condescension and arrogance,". Disagree with statements, thoughts, word choices all you want, But I have responded respectfully and expect all further correspondence to be respectful and without insult. Or it will not be posted.

Thank you for understanding.

June,

I did not condemn this person, nor this person's ideas.

Having re-read this post, I do not see condescension nor arrogance, but rather a plea to know what it is you believe so that when questioned on it, you are not intimidated by the questions. That you are able to agree to disagree and still maintain friendship and communication with the one you disagree with. This leads to personal freedom in interacting with others.

This post talks about the importance of being strong enough to encounter ideas you disagree with and not letting them rock your world.

And you thought it would somehow help if you publicly condemned, with your particular brand of condescension and arrogance, this person whose friendship you supposedly "value"? Your description of your friend sounds very much like behavior patterns of your own that you fail to see. I imagine the exchange with your friend did not occur in accordance with the one-sided picture you paint. You have condescending tendencies and respond very poorly to challenges. If anyone can benefit from your lecture above, it is you.

I agree that stories are good, (go figure right?) But what is being referred to is the holding of false ideas, false beliefs as fact. Myth here is more along the lines of the false explanations of the world.

When we embrace anything that is false and purport it to be true and beyond error, then we have started to live our lives according to a myth, no matter what that myth is, or in what area it arises. Be that moral, religious, science, politics, or any other area.

Too often what starts as a lie in our modern societies often becomes a myth when (thanks to modern media outlets) great numbers of people are told lies repeatedly, and so frequently that they become to believed as factual. Here myth is a lie coming to life. Nor is this primarily a societal phenomenon. Individuals can tell themselves a lie so often that they come to believe it to be true, and so transform the lie into myth. A made up story they now live their lives by. This is one of the definitions of dysfunction.

This topic could go many places, maybe I'll make it a blog entry soon.

Thank you for your comment.

In addition, if you can think of some other aspect that I have missed, please let me know, or please continue to ask if I did not answer what you were asking.

Thanks again,

Wow, excellent. Such an apt metaphor for continuing to deal with issues that one thinks one has dealt with already. (That Arrogance Attaché Case that ya thought had no connection to the Low Self-Image Luggage Ensemble might actually have some coordinating colors with one another... related, dovetailed issues... though not immediately apparent until one does a bit of examining... as you said.) Have you been reading a lot of Beth Moore lately? ;) (Points in your post remind me of two or three of her Bible studies.)

Kara,

Thank you so much for your response. I am glad you liked the topic this week.

I could not have stated where intent comes from any better. Very cool.

I do agree that when compliments and intentions have a more self-seeking motive, they do tend to backfire. With the person making the non-complimentary compliment becoming very shallow and trite to the one to whom they are speaking.

Hey Charles! Intersting topic this week on intent. It reminded me of work and how those employees who made it were rewarded in site meetings for all their accomplishments. All were glad to hear their names mentioned and walk forward to get their crystal awards, trips etc. I on the other hand did not like it at all and never felt comforatable being applauded for a job that had had to be done regardless and to me it was all a show for the newbies to be encouraged and nothing more.

My understanding of intent comes from a place of sincerity and not self-seeking or selfishness. Compliments and intentions can start off to be sincere but I have found if their is an underlining motive, it will backfire.

Sincerely,

Kara

Thank you Andrea-Elena.

I'm glad that you have found so much encouragement here. Your comment made my day. Thank you.

It is hard to break down preconceptions that we have. It exciting that you are making progress with this in your own life. Very Non-Sissy, and Noble of you.

Oops, hope I haven't set you on a pillar for someone else to knock off.... =)

John Ortberg, have not heard of him but will check into this book, thank you for the reference.

Freedom is costly, and should never be used for selfish indulgences. Though the free-er one is, the more he is prone to self indulge.... one of those great ironies of life.

And I do plan to keep things coming. As continually as I can! =)

Have a great day.

How timely this is!

After reading several bits from Eadarian.com over the last few weeks, I was incredibly inspired, but I was also beginning to do the same thing you here advise against: contrast myself against an ideal I had constructed from a perception I had about the type of person you describe here on the site. And while I knew this was nutty, unwise, unhelpful, unhealthy, and downright ungodly, I had a really hard time battling such thoughts. (I tend to be hypercritical of myself and rather a perfectionist in some ways... lazy in others.)

But this blog is such good encouragement!! And it really reminds me of something I read in John Ortberg's book, Love Beyond Reason. And of the apostle Paul's encouragement/exhortation as well... that grace isn't cheap... and that our freedom was purchased not as a license to fleshly hedonism or to religious legalism but for us to be free indeed: free to seek the truth and live it. And to live it joyfully. And to do so in community.

I continue to enjoy better understanding your perspectives on things. Keep it coming! =)

So... as the Brits would say, "Hear, hear! my friend. Hear, hear!"

Thank you sir, and thanks for letting me know the pics are loading slow, I 'll see what I can do on my end to speed them up.
Yes I do have both a twitter and a face book. Just follow the links on the side of the page to be taken to either one.

And you are very welcome.

What a post!! Very informative also easy to understand. Looking for more such blogposts!! Do you have a twitter or a facebook?
I recommended it on digg. The only thing that it's missing is a bit of speed, the pictures are appearing slowly. However thank you for this information.
